Vol. 249 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford School.

46.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to start building a school at Aughnacliffe, County Longford; and if he will state the present position in relation to the proposed school at Mullinalaughta, County Longford.

Arrangements for the erection of a new central school at Aughnacliffe, County Longford, are almost completed. I am not as yet in a position to say when building work on the new school will begin, but it is expected that tenders will be invited early in the year 1971.

It is not proposed to erect a new school at Cloonagh, Mullinalaughta, County Longford, as the number of pupils on rolls would not be sufficient to warrant a school with more than two teachers. It is proposed instead to carry out a major scheme of improvements to the existing school to render it suitable for a number of years until the future school provision for the area can be finally determined.

Question No. 47 postponed.
