Vol. 249 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Factories.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how many factories were opened in County Dublin during the past ten years; and the approximate number of persons employed during the same period.

In the period 1st January, 1960, to 31st December, 1969, 132 new industrial concerns and extensions to existing concerns came to notice as having commenced production in County Dublin (including the city area). The total estimated employment involved was 14,000 workers.

There may, of course, have been other new projects of which there is no official record.

Would the Minister be able to say how many left the country in that period? Would it have been about 20,000 people?

I want to put on record that great things are happening in our time.

Gun-running, and so on, by members of the Government. Hear, hear. It never happened before— and £100,000 of the taxpayer's money misappropriated.

We have 14,000 people employed in the new factories.

(Interruptions.)

This must be the sixpence you got in the tin can.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
