FOOTNOTES: The grants payable are based on estimates of net health expenditure for 1971-72 as supplied in November/December, 1970 by the existing health authorities and are intended to enable the contributing bodies to keep increases in health rates for 1971-72 to a maximum of 44p. All local authorities have not yet struck rates but of those that have it is understood that increases range from 25p to 44p.

In order to give an accurate picture of the relief provided, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the full excess over the original estimates for the current year, 1970-71, will be borne by the Exchequer. This results in an average saving of 15p in health rates generally.
