Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Hospital Nurses.

14.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will arrange with the local health authority for the appointment in a permanent capacity of all the charge nurses and deputy charge nurses in St. Finan's hospital, Killarney, some of whom have been acting in a temporary capacity for up to ten years.

The appointments in question are a matter for the employing authority in the first instance. I have not been approached on the matter.

The prolonged temporary appointments have been caused by the delay in the settlement of the general promotion issue which has been the subject of negotiations for a considerable time between representatives of the psychiatric nursing staff and of the employing authorities.

I hope that both parties will soon reach agreement, which could provide for the confirmation of the existing temporary promotions.
