Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prize Bonds Scheme.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance the basis on which the prize bonds scheme was allocated to a commercial bank (name supplied); and if he will arrange to have this scheme operated by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs through the Post Office system.

On the introduction of the Prize Bond Scheme in 1957, the functions of registrar and paying agent were assigned to the Bank of Ireland as that bank was then the registrar and paying agent for all Government loans. It is not proposed to transfer these functions to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. Under existing arrangements, however, applications for prize bonds and for the encashment of prize bonds may be made through any Savings Bank Post Office.
