Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational Schools Posts.

50.

asked the Minister for Education the criteria used in measuring posts of responsibility in vocational schools.

There are normally four types of posts of responsibility in vocational schools: principal, viceprincipal, Grade A and Grade B posts. The number and value of the posts are determined by a points system related to the number of pupils and their age. In regard to the assignment of duties to posts of responsibility it is the practice of the Department to allow the Vocational Education Committees to exercise discretion in the matter. This discretion in effect is exercised through the chief executive officers and the principals of the schools. Because circumstances vary from school to school the only realistic criterion is that the duties assigned should be in keeping with the nature of the post and the allowance attaching to it.
