Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport Service.

58.

asked the Minister for Education if he will take steps to provide a minibus service which will collect the post-primary pupils from the Kilcatherine area (north of the hill), the Inward-Ardgroom districts and especially from the townlands of Darrigroe, Cleandra and Pulleen in West Cork and which will meet the main CIE transport to Castletownbere post-primary schools.

My Department has recently carried out a feasibility study in these areas with a view to providing an improved school transport service. There are approximately 23 pupils involved, but the roads are not suitable for an ordinary school bus. A minibus feeder service is the only solution, and this will involve two journeys morning and evening to the connection points on the main Lauragh-Castletownbere route. CIE have been authorised to provide a service on this basis after the Easter holidays.
