Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Reactors.

64.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that in County Cork reactors are fetching a much higher price when sold direct to meat factories than when purchased by his Department's valuers; and if he will have the matter investigated.

This is a very rare occurrence. In practically every case the price offered by my Department is more favourable, based as it is on-the current market value without reference to the result of the tuberculin test, and indemnifies the herdowner against the risks of transport and possible partial or total condemnation of the animal at the factory.

Of course, if any herdowner wishes to sell his reactor direct to a factory, my Department will readily grant the necessary permit.
