Vol. 252 No. 10

Written Answers. - Free Secondary Education Scheme.

91.

asked the Minister for Education if he has any plans to increase the per capita payment in lieu of fees made by his Department in respect of pupils in attendance at secondary schools which have opted to enter the free education scheme.

It is not contemplated at present to increase the per capita grant in lieu of school fees payable in respect of pupils attending secondary schools which have opted to enter the free education scheme. However, the matter is being kept under review.

92.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in relation to the free secondary education scheme (a) the number of schools which have opted into the scheme, (b) the number of schools which have not done so and (c) the number of secondary school pupils in attendance at the schools at (a) and (b).

The number of secondary schools which have opted into the free post-primary education scheme is 511, with an enrolment of 112,802 day pupils and the number which chose to remain outside the scheme is 30 with an enrolment of 6,400 day pupils.
