Vol. 253 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - IDA Review.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why the introduction to the Industrial Development Authority Review 1952-70 Annual Report, 1969-70 is misleading as to the date of the establishment of the Industrial Development Authority; and if he will ensure that in future this error is not repeated.

I am assured that the report issued by the Industrial Development Authority under the title Review 1952/70 Annual Report 1969/70 was certainly not intended to mislead as to the date of the establishment of the authority. As successor to An Foras Tionscal, the IDA undertook responsibility for the publication of the annual report previously issued by An Foras Tionscal which gave details of the various grants given each year. The grants scheme came into operation in 1952 with the establishment in that year of An Foras Tionscal and I am informed that it was thought appropriate that the review should cover the period since then. It is made clear in appendix 5 of the report which deals with the functions of the former authority of An Foras Tionscal that the authority was constituted under an Act of 1950. I feel that this information might more appropriately have been included in the introduction and I have asked the IDA to keep this point in mind in the preparation of future reports.
