Vol. 253 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Estate.

16.

asked the Minister for Lands why a person (name supplied) who has an uneconomic holding was not allocated land on an estate in Kerry (details supplied) which was recently divided.

The selection of allottees for land is a matter reserved to the Commissioners. The application of the person referred to by the Deputy was given full consideration but, having regard to the amount of land to be disposed of and the claims of applicants solely dependent on farming for a living, it was not found possible to provide him with an allotment.

Do I gather from the Minister's reply that the Land Commission are an autonomous body, that there is no interference with the recommendations of local inspectors submitted to them, that there is no juggling at the top through political representation with which, perhaps, there would be nothing wrong? Am I to assume that everything is above board, that there are no political representations or interference——

I got the answer, a Cheann Comhairle.

It had nothing to do with the question on the Order Paper.

It had, of course.
