Vol. 253 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 and 5 and in No. 5 Votes 39 (39 Supplementary) and 6. It is proposed to take the Supplementary Estimate and No. 6 in conjunction with Vote 39 and it is proposed to take Questions at 2.30 p.m. Before we proceed may I reply to two questions put to me yesterday about two Bills that appear on the Order Paper? I was asked when were they likely to be taken. We are anxious to have these taken as soon as possible but, in order to get a comprehensive view of the business that we would like to see put through between now and the ordinary Summer Recess, I have asked my Whip's office to draw up a preliminary list and discuss it with the Whips of the other parties so that we can all have an idea of what business is likely to come before the Dáil in the coming weeks and months.

What Bills are these?

One is the Planning Bill and the other is the Ministers and Secretaries Bill to set up the new Department. There are many others as well including the Forcible Entry Bill.

I suppose there is also the little motion I have down.

That will be considered too. I think it would be worthwhile for us to get an idea of what we have before us with a view to having a reasonable adjournment and not having two crowded weeks at the end.

Does the Taoiseach expect to be there that long, now that there are a provisional and an official Fianna Fáil Party?

A Deputy

Is that what the Deputy reads in the papers?

Never mind what is in the papers.

They do not want Declan Costello in his own constituency.

This is the calm before the storm.

Fianna Fáil are providing the news.

The Taoiseach thanked Deputy O'Connor who kicked him in the teeth last week—and praised him for his courage.

(Interruptions.)

I am glad of the opportunity Deputy L'Estrange has presented to me——

The Taoiseach is out of order.

The Deputy made a statement and I think I am entitled to reply to it. Deputy O'Connor at his constituency dinner last week explained his action. I said I did not agree with his action but that I admired the fact that he got up before his own constituents to explain the reasons for it. I then proceeded to say that he had no right to do so nor would it be condoned. I am glad the Deputy opened his mouth wide enough to let me in on that.

(Interruptions.)

I am obliged to the Deputy for letting me in on that.
