Vol. 253 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Traffic Regulations.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make uniform regulations under the Road Traffic Acts to allow space to be provided on main roads for pedestrians, cyclists, horse-drawn vehicles, tractors and other slow-moving traffic.

I propose to make general traffic regulations under section 60 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968, and to include a provision therein which, through the use of traffic signs, would enable part of a roadway, to be set aside on the lines mentioned by the Deputy. When these regulations are made the matter would be one for the road authority concerned acting at the request, or with the consent, of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.

Could I ask the Minister for one more space, a soft path if you happen to fall from your horse along the road?

I am beginning to suspect that the Deputy has a screw loose somewhere.

The Minister knows who fell off his horse this time 12 months ago.
