Vol. 253 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Amenities.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps have been taken to prepare the 24 acres at Mellowes Road, Finglas West, Dublin for a sports and recreational centre.

This is a matter for the Dublin Corporation. I understand that necessary preliminary development work, including seeding and grassing, has been carried out on the area in question and that the corporation hope to have the playing pitches ready for use next autumn.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the cause of the delay in the completion of the ambulance and fire station at Mellowes Road, Finglas West, Dublin.

I understand from Dublin Corporation, who are responsible for the provision of this fire station, that the contractor has failed to complete the contract and that the corporation are making alternative arrangements for its completion.

Is the Minister able to say when work will recommence?

No. They are negotiating for another contractor to complete the work. I think there are two-thirds of it to be completed and I could not at this stage say what the outcome of the negotiations will be. The Deputy will realise that I am very anxious to see this work carried out because of the unusual nature of the delay.
