Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Westmeath Farm.

69.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is in a position to state whether a large US beef feeding company has placed an option on a 550-acre farm in County Westmeath in anticipation of EEC entry.

The purchase of rural land by non-qualified persons is controlled by section 45 of the Land Act, 1965. The written consent of the Land Commission is required before an interest in land can vest in any company or other non-qualified person.

No such application has been received by the Land Commission in respect of a farm in County Westmeath on behalf of a concern such as is referred to in the question.
