Vol. 255 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Redundancy Payments.

24.

asked the Minister for Labour if redundancy money has been paid to a person (name supplied) who worked for more than 40 years in an estate in Sligo (name supplied).

As the person in question lost his employment in May, 1967, which was several months before the benefits or the contributions of the Redundancy Payments Act came into operation, that Act did not apply in his case.

As this person was employed for 40 years in this estate, would it not be possible to have benefit paid to him retrospectively?

No. This question was asked by a former Member some years ago. This person might be entitled to some gratuity on retiring which he or some of his colleagues did not get and which, I understand, they are pursuing.

From whom will they get the gratuity?

The Department of Lands.
