Vol. 255 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Company Investments.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance if any authoritative estimates are available of the average current return on equity investment in Irish companies and of the average return on capital employed; and, if so, if he will give details.

The information available officially regarding profits does not enable the average return on equity investment or on capital employed to be calculated authoritatively for all Irish companies, public and private. It is hoped that a comprehensive inquiry at present in progress into company profits, distributions and related matters will provide the data sought by the Deputy. It is not yet possible to say when the inquiry will be completed.

Is the Minister aware that some years have passed since the date when we were first told the information would be available, and is there any possibility of getting a firm date for this information?

At the moment I cannot indicate when the inquiry will be completed.

Could the Minister say who is conducting this inquiry?

The Revenue Commissioners.
