Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Facilities for Retarded Children.

148.

andMr. Fox asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider making funds available to provide community playgrounds for retarded children.

I would be prepared to give the most sympathetic possible consideration to any applications that might be received for grant assistance under the amenity grants scheme administered by my Department towards the cost of projects of this kind. Any such application should be made through the local authority for the area concerned. The general conditions of the scheme are at present being revised. It is intended that, in future, responsibility for the administration of the scheme will be devolved to the local authorities. They will decide what projects should be put forward for grant assistance and what priority should be accorded to them.
