Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Buchanan Report.

162.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Government has fully dealt with the Buchanan Report; and, if so, with what result.

As indicated in the statement issued by the Government on 19th May, 1969, the report will be further considered in the context of proposals for regional development generally. As proposed in that statement, regional development organisations have been established in the nine planning regions. They were asked to submit reports indicating for each region the constraints and potential for development. These reports, which are now completed in most cases and nearing completion in the other cases, and the regional plans for industrial development being prepared by the Industrial Development Authority will with the Buchanan Report provide the basis for the further consideration of a comprehensive programme of regional development envisaged by the Government.
