Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Irish Sea Pollution.

163.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been drawn to statements to the effect that, owing to the dumping of sewage and waste by firms on the west coast of England, the Irish Sea is being polluted to a very great extent; if, in view of the fact that it appears that such activity will increase in volume in the immediate future, any steps have been or are being taken with a view to minimising the undesirable results which are likely to arise.

I am aware that such statements have been made. I am advised, however, that because of the direction of tidal flows in the Irish Sea the likelihood of our coastal waters being affected by the discharges referred to is remote.
