Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Birr (Offaly) TV Reception.

184.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received complaints about the very poor quality of television reception at Birr, County Offaly; if he will carry out a full investigation into these complaints so that licence holders may obtain a much improved service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received no reports of the kind mentioned by the Deputy. However, I understand from Radio Telefís Éireann that while the quality of reception in the Birr area is normally good it was recently affected by interference from a Spanish television station due to unusual atmospheric conditions. I am advised that there are no practical steps which can be taken to avoid this kind of interference.

I am further informed that the authority investigated three complaints of interference to television reception in the area recently. The sources of the interference which are local have been traced and steps are being taken to eliminate them.
