Vol. 255 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Semi-State Body Reports.

36.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any of the semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department is obliged by statute to furnish an annual report; if so, if any such body has failed to furnish a report within the time limit laid down for it by statute; the reason for the delay; and what action he proposes to take to ensure the early production of such reports.

Seven of the bodies under the aegis of my Department are obliged by statute to furnish an annual report to me but a time limit is not laid down by or pursuant to the relevant statute in all cases. In those cases where a time limit applies, only one of the bodies concerned has failed to furnish its annual report within the prescribed time. The directors of the company in question, Min Fhéir (1959) Teo., are part-time and this, coupled with illness and staff difficulties, contributed to the delay.

In October, 1969, my predecessor impressed on the directors the necessity for prompt submission of reports. Since then, the board of the company has been strengthened by the appointment of additional directors and no further cause for complaint should arise in this connection.
