Vol. 255 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Protection Costs.

52.

asked the Minister for Justice the total cost of affording special protection to members of the Government from May, 1970, to the latest date for which figures are available.

The protection referred to in the question is provided as part of normal Garda duties and is undertaken by the Garda in conjunction with their other duties.

I take it that we cannot get a figure. Is it not possible to extract one?

No, it is not possible.

Would I be right in suggesting that £100,000 would be the figure?

I have no idea what the figure is because it could not be extracted, as it is part of the normal duties of quite a number of gardaí.
