Vol. 255 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Housing.

106.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans his Department have to provide further new houses at Crinkle, County Offaly.

No proposals are before my Department to provide a housing scheme at Crinkle, County Offaly. It is a matter for the housing authority to formulate any such proposal.

107.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he received any proposals from Offaly County Council to sanction plans permitting the building at Birr, Portarlington and Ferbane of five houses to the statute acre which would qualify for full Government grants and subsidies; if so, if he is prepared to sanction such proposals; and the likely date of his sanction.

I have received and approved of a proposal to provide a scheme of developed sites for private housing at Birr at a density of 6.6 to the acre. I have received also proposals for such sites at Portarlington and Ferbane. In the latter cases, I have asked the council to review their proposals because the densities—5.5 and 4.3 houses respectively—do not comply with requirements for subsidy purposes. Pending further submissions from the council, I am not in a position to say when plans for these schemes are likely to be sanctioned.
