Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Librarian Compensation Payment.

124.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether compensation has been paid to the former librarian in Dundrum, Dublin, in respect of loss of office; and, if not, why.

As I indicated in my reply of 1st June, 1971, in this case, the superannuation, or compensation for loss of office, of a local authority officer is a matter for the local authority concerned having regard to the provisions of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, subject to the right of the officer to appeal to me if he or she is aggrieved by the local authority decision. Dublin County Council indicated to my Department that in terminating this officer's employment, subject to my consent, it was their intention to grant her a gratuity under the provisions of the Superannuation Act. I have notified the county council and the officer concerned by letters of 21st July, 1971, that I have consented to the termination of her employment and it is expected that the gratuity will be paid to her shortly.
