Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Bridges.

138.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the danger of damage to the old bridge at Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, by the excessively heavy traffic following the partial closure of the main bridge; and if repair of the main bridge will be expedited so that traffic will cease to use a bridge which was originally intended as a footbridge.

139.

asked the Minister for Local Government to what extent the main bridge over the Suir at Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, has been damaged; what proposals have been made for its repair; and when it is hoped the bridge will be open to heavy traffic.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 138 and 139 together. I am aware that the condition of Dillon Bridge, Carrick-on-Suir, is under examination by Tipperary (South Riding) County Council but no firm proposals have yet been put to my Department. I am unable therefore to state what work will be required or when it will be carried out.

I have no information regarding Old Bridge, Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, but I am confident that the road authority will take all the necessary steps to ensure it does not suffer damage in the course of temporary diversion of traffic from Dillon Bridge.
