Vol. 256 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Breathalyser Tests.

157.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of prosecutions in the first nine months of this year arising from breathalyser tests.

The records hitherto kept have not distinguished between cases involving breathalyser tests and other drunken driving cases. However, the distinction will be drawn in future reports of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána on crime, commencing with the report for the year ended 30th September, 1971, which is at present in course of preparation.

In the meantime, the Deputy may be interested to learn that in the period to which he refers 977 blood or urine samples out of a total of 1,054 submitted to the Medical Bureau of Road Safety were found to contain a quantity of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.
