Vol. 256 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Closing of Meath Road.

233.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received any complaint from a number of residents in Barley Hill/Meath Hill, County Meath, about an order made by him regarding the closure of a road there.

I have received such complaints. I am satisfied that the relevant statutory procedure was fully complied with and also that arrangements were made to meet the wishes of the local residents as far as possible before I made the order in question.

What is the statutory requirement regarding the length of time that should be given before a road is closed? Is it in order for the notice to appear in Saturday's paper that the road is closing on the following Monday morning?

No. There is a very long history in this case. I went through it. I am not prepared to read it out now but I am satisfied that all the procedures were dealt with and all the people who had complaints were met.
