87.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state the amount allocated for sea fishery research for 1971-72 and for each of the past ten years.

In a reply to a similar question by the Deputy on 4th November, 1970, details were given of the expenditure on sea fishery research incurred by my Department and the semi-State bodies connected with it in each of the years from 1960-61 to 1968-69. Corresponding figures for the subsequent three years are given in a tabular statement which I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to circulate in the Official Report.

Following is the statement :—

Expenditure by* Department

Expenditure by Inland Fisheries Trust

£

£

1969-70

49,184

5,300

1970-71

47,595

12,000

1971-72 (Estimated)

59,000

7,500

*To each of these figures must be added a sum to cover the salaries, travelling and subsistence expenses of the officers engaged in sea fishery research. For 1970-71 that sum was about £24,600.
