asked the Minister for Defence the number of officers who retired from the Army prior to retirement age in each of the years ended 30th October, 1970 and 30th October, 1971.

The numbers of officers who retired from the permanent Defence Force (including the Naval Service), before reaching the normal retiring ages for their ranks, during the years ended 30th October, 1970, and 30th October, 1971, were 28 and 21 respectively. In addition, 4 officers resigned during the year ended 30th October, 1970 and one officer resigned during the year ended 30th October, 1971.
