Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Local Offices.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has studied the report on the Dublin Corporation pilot local offices at Ballymun; and whether he is prepared to establish further local offices at Finglas and Cabra.

I received a report from Dublin Corporation last week on the operations of the branch office of their housing department at Ballymun up to the 1st October, 1971, and I am having this examined. The question of opening similar offices in other areas where the corporation have major housing estates will be considered in the light of the report and in the general context of the suggestions in the White Paper on Local Government about the establishment of advisory area committees and local community councils.

Would the Minister consider giving special priority to places like Ballyfermot and Finglas?

I am glad the Deputy is satisfied with the office at Ballymun. I imagine the corporation report will decide it is worthwhile and in the light of that report I will decide if similar offices should be opened elsewhere.

I suggest that the Minister does not base his action entirely on this report. Since we are thinking in terms of local government, will he not accept that in relation to Dublin Corporation it is a misnomer? People are entitled to have local offices instead of calling to City Quay.

That is one of the proposals in the White Paper.
