Vol. 257 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co. Kildare School Accommodation.

63.

asked the Minister for Education when he would give a decision on the Kildare Vocational Education Committee's proposal with regard to the schedule of accommodation for the new vocational school in Droichead Nua, which was put before his Department in November 1970.

The form the future development of post-primary education in this area will take is a matter to which a great deal of further consideration will have to be given. I am unable at present to give any indication as to what the outcome may be or when a decision can be taken on the proposals from County Kildare Vocational Education Committee.

Would the Minister take into consideration the fact that in an industrial town like Newbridge, with the highest growth rate outside of greater Dublin, the provision of a vocational school or a school of similar type is very desirable and would he try to expedite a decision in this particular case?

As I have explained, I have to take into consideration the educational needs in general and, until I have given special consideration to this, I cannot give any decision about the proposal.

Would the Minister have any idea when he will be able to reach a decision?

At the moment I cannot say.

Questions Nos. 64, 65, 66 and 67 postponed.
