Vol. 257 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kinnitty (Offaly) Garda Station.

124.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of Garda Síochána, inclusive of Garda sergeants, stationed in Kinnitty on the 1st October, 1961 and on the 1st October, 1971; and (b) if it is considered necessary to appoint a Garda sergeant in Kinnitty at the present time and, if so, when it is proposed to make such an appointment.

Garda strength in Kinnitty on 1st October, 1961, was one sergeant and two gardaí. It was reduced in April of last year to one sergeant and one garda, which remains the present approved strength. However, the sergeant post became vacant last June and I am informed by the Commissioner that it was not possible until the 3rd of this month to make arrangements to fill it. I understand that the new sergeant took up duty within the last few days.
