Vol. 258 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inward Passenger Movements.

4.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the basis of the compilation of the net passenger movements with particular reference to the net passenger inward movement of 1,000 persons for the year ended November, 1971.

From returns supplied by the transport concerns involved monthly totals are compiled for inward and outward cross-channel passenger movement by sea and for total non-transit inward and outward passenger movement by air. The difference between the combined sea and air outward passenger movement and the corresponding inward movement gives the net passenger balance for the month. From the monthly figures a 12-month total is compiled for each consecutive period of 12 months.

For the 12 months ended November, 1971, the net passenger balance compiled in this way showed an inward flow of 841.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be able to say if, in fact, any effort was made to find out the number who emigrate across the Border and through ports in the Six Counties?

I am sorry, I do not appear to have information at my disposal which would answer the Deputy's question adequately but I can get the information for the Deputy without his having to put down a Parliamentary Question.

I would be very grateful if the Parliamentary Secretary would.

Certainly, I will.
