Vol. 258 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - British Army Sergeant.

56.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received any report on the recent case of the British army sergeant who sought asylum in the Republic; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Presumably the question is based on certain news reports. The question does not indicate what information the Deputy seeks. In any event, the man concerned has not to my knowledge complained in any way of his treatment by the Garda or alleged that he sought and was refused permission to stay here. In these circumstances it would be a breach of ordinary accepted rules of confidence for me to disclose anything of what he said in private to the Garda.
