Vol. 259 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Closures.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if a factory (name supplied) in County Sligo will be re-opened; whether anything has been done to re-employ the 35 employees who were laid off when the factory closed; and if there are any plans to re-open the factory.

I understand that the company referred to has gone into voluntary liquidation. I am informed that the placement service of the Department of Labour is active in trying to place the workers in alternative employment locally. In addition, the Industrial Development Authority is doing everything possible to secure a replacement industry for the area.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a factory (name supplied) in County Dublin is closing down with a consequent loss of 150 jobs; and what steps he is taking to provide a new industry or alternative employment in the area.

I am aware that the company referred to has announced its intention to cease operations. The Industrial Development Authority are in touch with the present company with a view to seeing whether it may be possible to provide alternative employment for the displaced workers.
