Vol. 259 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workers' Holidays.

22.

asked the Minister for Labour the average number of days holidays enjoyed by workers in the Republic; and if any information is available as to the relative position in EEC countries.

The statutory minimum holiday entitlement in Ireland is 12 working days plus six public holidays. During recent years however additional holidays have been negotiated for many workers and various categories now have 18 days a year or more.

There are considerable variations in holiday entitlements within the EEC. Statutory minimum entitlements range from 12 to 24 working days, and in some cases these are subject to variations by collective agreements. There is a very wide span in the number of public holidays in the EEC countries.
