Vol. 259 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Living Increase.

52.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the increase in the cost of living consequent on the introduction of decimal currency.

I understand that it is not possible to derive from the quarterly series of consumer price index numbers a separate measure of the effect of the introduction of decimal currency. The index increased by 2.7 per cent between 9th February, 1971, pre-decimalisation, and 18th May, 1971, post-decimalisation, but in that time price increases caused by many factors occurred.
