Vol. 259 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Community Schools.

32.

asked the Minister for Education when he will be in a position to place a copy of the deed of trust of the proposed community schools in the Dáil Library.

The proposed deed of trust for community schools is still at the draft stage. As soon as the draft has been finalised a copy of the deed will be placed in the Library of the House.

Can the Minister state why he has not consulted the Dáil, although he has consulted other interests? Does he intend to finalise this matter without giving the Dáil an opportunity to see the draft and to consider it?

Yes, I intend to finalise the matter. We have had a very considerable amount of discussion on this matter. I propose to finalise the draft and to place it in the Library.

The Minister will agree that Deputies have not had an opportunity of seeing the document. Does he think we have no function in this matter, that it can be dealt with behind closed doors?

Not at all. This matter was discussed over a very long period.
