Vol. 259 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Technical Assistance for Agriculture.

47.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries how and by whom the £60,000 voted under subhead B.10 of his Department's Estimates for technical assistance has been spent; and how much more or less than the amount provided has been spent to date.

Of the £60,000 provided for technical assistance in the current financial year, over £47,000 has been expended to date. Grants amounting to almost £31,000 have been paid to agriculture based industries towards the cost of approved projects in the field of organisation and training, designed to improve productive efficiency. The balance has been spent on grants towards the cost of study visits abroad by agricultural scientists and representatives of rural and farming organisations and on the engagement of specialist consultants and lecturers from abroad.

Could the Minister state which agricultural based industries received funds under this subhead?

I do not think I can tell the Deputy straight off but if he puts down a further question I am sure I can give him the figures.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
