Vol. 259 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Prices.

32.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the 1972 prices for (a) whole milk and (b) milk less skim milk, delivered to creameries.

The prices which creameries pay for milk are determined by the creameries themselves and depend on a variety of factors such as the operational and marketing efficiency of the individual creameries, the degree to which production has been diversified, and the non-milk activities carried on. It is estimated that the average price receivable by creamery suppliers generally for whole milk during 1972 will be between 15p and 16p per gallon or approximately 2p per gallon more than in 1971. Where the skim milk is taken back by the supplier, the price receivable would be approximately 2p per gallon less than the corresponding price for whole milk.
