Vol. 260 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Pickpocket Problem.

16.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious menace of pickpockets at the bus stops at Aston Quay, Dublin, and what action he proposes taking to deal with it.

A total of 17 cases of larceny from the person in the area in question have been reported since 1st October, 1971. In six of those cases detections have been made. In the same period one detection of attempted larceny from the person was made and a total of eight persons were arrested and charged with loitering with intent.

Measures have been taken recently to further strengthen the Garda supervision of the area.

Is the Minister aware that this trouble seems to arise mainly on the late-night buses when there are many people waiting in queues?

The Garda say that the period from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. is the peak period for this kind of activity.
