asked the Minister for Justice in regard to hit-and-run accidents since 1st January, 1969, the number of (a) reported cases, (b) deaths, (c) cases of personal injury, (d) cases of material damage, (e) prosecutions, (f) convictions and (g) persons sent to prison; and if he is satisfied that the penalties imposed in such cases are a sufficient deterrent.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hit-and-Run Accidents.
The information asked for, in so far as it is available, is in the form of a tabular statement, which, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.
I have no reason to think that the penalties imposed are inadequate.
