Vol. 260 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lamb Subsidy.

49.

andMr. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries in relation to the proposed increase in subsidy payable on fat wether lambs from October, 1972, if he will state what steps will be taken to ensure that the increase in full will accrue directly to the producers.

As indicated by the Minister for Finance in his budget statement, this increase in subsidy is being granted to provide a better market outlet for wether lambs in mountain areas and the arrangements for payment thereof, which have yet to be finalised, will be designed to benefit the producers accordingly.

Can the Minister say to whom the money will be paid?

I would hope that it would be paid to the producer.

Directly?

I would hope so but as I told the Deputy the scheme is being worked out and will be announced shortly. It will be designed to benefit the producer.

It is a pity that the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries is not here today.
