Vol. 261 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estates.

10.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission will divide the O'Grady estate, Peak, Barnaderg, Tuam, County Galway.

11.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission intend to divide the Flanagan estate, Gurteenbawn, Dunmore, County Galway.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11, together.

It was hoped that the 37-acre O'Grady holding would be allotted this spring but, in the event, this did not prove feasible and it is now expected that allocation will be effected next spring.

I understand that the aim is to include the 46-acre Flanagan holding in the following year's allocation programme.

When the O'Grady estate is allotted this spring will the allocation be made on the recommendation of the local Land Commission inspectors or will it be made by some people in Dublin, the Commissioners, or will it be made on political representations by Government supporters? I am not asking this for any political reason but there is that impression that land is being divided mainly on political qualifications.

That is an outrageous suggestion.

The Deputy must be joking.

12.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission intended to allocate the following estates in County Galway: the McDermott estate, the Moore estate, the Mannion estate and the Ward estate, Whitepark, Glenamaddy; the Gibbons estate, Leitra, Glenamaddy; and the Ward estate, Patch, Glenamaddy.

A comprehensive scheme for division of these properties and other lands in the locality, aggregating 215 acres, has been approved and I understand that an inspector has been on the ground over the past week arranging for disposal of the lands.
