Vol. 261 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork River.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance when the River Ouvane, Kealkil, Bantry, County Cork will be cleared and widened.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a similar question by him in July 1969, a drainage scheme for the portion of the Ouvane River below Kealkil was carried out in 1963. The works of this scheme are being effectively maintained. When the scheme was being prepared the inclusion of the area upstream of Kealkil was investigated, but it was found that the cost of the drainage works would be excessive in relation to the benefits they would bring. It is not proposed now to do any work in this uneconomic area.
