Vol. 261 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bail Order.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice if the terms of the order admitting a person (name supplied) to bail were complied with prior to his release.

It goes without saying that the terms of the order were complied with before the Governor released the prisoner.

May I ask the Minister what were the terms of the order?

I answer this without prejudice to the fact that it is a court document and one to which, strictly speaking, access could be got only on application to the court but, in view of the fact that the terms of the order were more or less reported in the papers I think I could justifiably refer to it. The terms of the order required one independent surety in the sum of £500 or two sufficient sureties in the sum of £250 each.

There was no requirement for the prisoner himself to enter into a recognisance?
