Vol. 261 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Price Basis.

54.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the growing recognition of the value of milk proteins in the food industry, he will consider paying farmers on the protein constituent of milk as well as on the butterfat content.

As I indicated in reply to a question on 15th March last, the system of payment for creamery milk on the basis of butterfat content may, at some future date, be modified to take account also of other constituents of the milk. There has, however, been no request from the dairy industry generally for any change in that direction and it does not appear that such a change would offer advantages to Irish dairy farmers.
