asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange that on future postage stamps, particularly those which are issued to promote worthy causes, inscriptions are printed in both official languages as a contribution to better understanding between both Irish communities and of the purpose for which the stamps are issued; and, if not, why.

Inscriptions on our postage stamps have generally been in Irish only except for the names of persons usually known by their English names. While no change in this general practice is contemplated, there have been departures from it in the past and there may well be in the future where the theme and design of a particular stamp require it. I will bear the point made by the Deputy in mind in relation to the type of stamp which he particularly mentions.
