Vol. 262 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Afforestation.

38.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Lands if he will request the Forestry Division of his Department to have a survey carried out of the mountain area of Ballycroy, County Mayo, with a view to acquiring lands suitable for forestry purposes.

It is not considered necessary to have a survey carried out as considerable areas of land in the Ballycroy district have been inspected already. Experimental planting has been undertaken on this type of land and the results are such as to warrant some expansion of planting on such areas if suitable lands can be acquired.

39.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Lands if steps will be taken by the Forestry Division of his Department to acquire, for forestry purposes, the large tract of bogland south of the Owenmore river at Bangor-Erris, County Mayo held unused by Bord na Móna.

I am not aware that a large tract of bogland, south of the Owenmore river at Bangor-Erris, is held but unused by Bord na Móna, but I have instructed the forest and wildlife service of my Department to make inquiries in the matter.
